No one wants their flight to get delayed.
Unfortunately, delays are pretty common, and can happen for a variety of reasons.
Here are some tips to help you make the most of your delays without wasting any time ⤵
Look for information ℹ️
When your flight gets delayed, the first thing you should do is to gather as much information as possible. Stay updated through the airline's app, website, and sign up for real-time email flight status notifications so that you get informed as soon as there’s a new update.
Know your rights 📖
Knowing your rights as a passenger will make a huge difference when your flight gets delayed. Different regions have different rules, but most airlines offer some form of compensation for significant delays within their control. Compensation typically comes in the form of meal vouchers, lounge access, accommodation, or financial compensation. It's essential to check your airline's policies and the regional regulations so that you know what form of compensation you're entitled to.
Contact the airline 📞
As soon as you learn about a delay, you should contact your airline immediately to explore your options, either by going to a customer service desk or calling their hotline. Ask about getting rebooked on the next available flight, or ask about the compensation that you can receive for the delay.
Use travel insurance 💰
Travel insurance needs to be arranged before your flight, but can save you a lot of money if your flight gets delayed. Rather than booking insurance separately, I recommend booking your flights with a credit card that includes trip cancellation, delay and interruption insurance. Most insurance policies cover expenses such as accommodation, meals, and alternative transportation.
